Summer 2017 Class Schedule

Summer is just about here and we have a selection of classes and workshops to take you through the heat of the summer. Learn a new skill like needle felting or utilizing the subtle features of Ravelry. For the more ambitious knitter, join Shawl Society or Fair Isle Cape Knit-Along. When Fall comes, you will be ready for the chill with handmade stylish pieces to wear. Classes do fill quickly, so don’t delay signing up! Free Community Events

Weaving Help
If you’ve taken the beginning Rigid Heddle weaving class (or know how to weave already) and have questions, want help warping your loom, or just want to weave and chat with other friendly weavers, this time is for you. Weekly, Rebecca will be on hand to help you and Deanna Baugh will be here the first Monday of each month. When: Monday afternoons from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Needlepoint Gathering 
Let’s get together to stitch! This will be a social time for stitchers to gather together, learn new skills, and be inspired. Stitchers of all abilities are welcome. When: The 1st and 3rd Tuesday afternoon of each month from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Wednesday

Knitting Support Group
We are always willing and happy to help you with your projects any time you come into the shop, but every Wednesday afternoon is dedicated to providing you a little extra help and the support of other knitters. This is not only a great time to get help on a pattern or ask questions, it can also work like a study group to accompany your class. Even if you just want time to knit during the day in a friendly group atmosphere, you are welcome! Karyn will be available to help and offer instruction. When: Wednesday afternoons from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Thursday Knit Night
Come join us every Thursday night for some social knitting time. All adult knitters of any knitting ability are welcome. No instruction is offered during this time so come with an easy, independent project, because you will definitely be distracted chatting with this fun collection of people. When: Every Thursday from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Spinning Circle
Spin a yarn with us! Refine your spinning skills while getting guidance from Brandie in the company of other spinners. Spinners of all abilities are welcome to join with your drop spindle or wheel. When: Friday afternoons from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Upcoming Summer Events–Mark Your Calendar!

World Wide Knit in Public Day
Join us for World Wide Knit in Public Day! We will meet under the large tree in front of Union Station from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 10th. In case of inclement weather, we will meet inside Union Station in the Grand Lobby. Please bring a chair and your knitting. Hope to see you there! When: Saturday, June 10th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

‘Yarn for All Seasons’ Shop Hop
Visit Needlepoint Joint on a tour of participating yarn stores along the Wasatch Front. Enjoy make and takes, free patterns, see all the new samples and yarns in every shop, and enter to win some truly incredible prizes! When: July 12th–July 15th (all shops will be open until 8:00 PM on Saturday, July 15th)

Great Basin Fiber Arts Fair 
The Great Basin Fiber Arts Fair is a fabulous event for all fiber enthusiasts. It is at a new venue this year, the Legacy Events Center in Farmington, which makes it even more convenient for us Ogdenites to get to. Plan to attend and enjoy shopping, classes, demonstrations, competitions, a spin-in, and much more! When: Friday and Saturday, August 25th & 26th, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Key to Knitting Class Levels:
(no star) = No Experience Necessary * = Basic Knitting Skills. You should know how to knit, purl, cast on, and bind off. ** = Should have basic knitting skills, plus know how to decrease, increase, and have knit at least one project. *** = Class is appropriate if you have completed a few projects and feel comfortable with the above skills.

Shawl Society II Knit-Along**
Fancy another Knit-Along? We had so much fun knitting along with Helen Stewart's Shawl Society last year, many of us are clamoring for more! We are ready to begin Shawl Society II. Join us to knit six new secret shawls she will be releasing over the next six months. Join Karyn and a community of other knitters as we knit six shawls (or however many you're up for!), enjoy treats, prizes, great company, and get help along the way. When: Fridays, May 5th, June 9th, July 7th, August 11th, September 8th, and October 6th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Instructor: Karyn Johnston Cost: $70

Ravelry Workshop
Not on Ravelry yet? Want to get on? This useful class teaches you the tricks and tips needed to easily navigate this online resource and make the most of its many features. Knitters, crocheters, designers, spinners, weavers and dyers use it to keep track of their yarn, tools, project and pattern information, as well as keeping up with the latest trends. Now you can too! When: Wednesday, May 17th, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM Instructor: Rebecca Thomas Cost: $25

Beginning Colorwork**
If you have never tried colorwork before but really want to learn, this class is for you. In this class, you will get to practice stranded colorwork using two colors of worsted weight yarn to make a cute, modern cowl. When: Tuesdays, June 6th and 13th, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM Instructor: Tracy Phillips Cost: $40

Baby Bloomers** 
These bloomers are so darling and such a quick knit you won't be able to knit just one pair! The pattern features an interesting construction. No seaming makes it ideal for the comfort of small babies. The bloomers are knit in the round with a nice rise in back. Use this class as your excuse to finally learn short row shaping and the kitchener stitch. Knit a pair for your own baby or knit them for a terrific baby gift. When: Wednesdays, June 7th and 14th, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Instructor: Paulette Christiansen Cost: $40

Pioneer Lace Cuff**
Spend an afternoon knitting up a darling beaded lace bracelet! This project is a great way to learn two beading techniques, practice intermediate lace, and complete a small project that is the perfect accessory to wear this summer. When: Saturday, July 8th, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM Instructor: Karyn Johnston Cost: $30

Fair Isle Cape Knit-Along**
Have fun with Fair Isle! Knit designer Kate Davies’ stunning Sixareen Cape with like-minded friends and practice your colorwork skills. We have a great selection of Jamieson & Smith Shetland jumper weight wool you can use to create your own colorway, or use those specified in the pattern. At the end of the Knit-Along, your cape will be ready to wear for fall! When: Fridays, June 16th, June 30th, July 14th, and July 28th, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM Instructor: Tracy Phillips Cost: $40

Becoming a Confident Knitter**
This is the perfect class for the newer knitter or the knitter who is ready to take their knitting skills to the next level. In this class, you will learn how to "read" your knitting, correct common mistakes, understand knitting instructions, and get the answers to your questions about general knitting techniques. Demystifying knitting and learning to fix your mistakes will really help you become a confident knitter! When: Wednesday, July 26th, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM Instructor: Rebecca Thomas Cost: $40

Adventures in Casting On and Binding Off*
There are so many ways to cast on and bind off. Come explore new methods for your projects, discuss when each cast on and bind off is appropriate, and expand your knitting horizons! When: Wednesday, August 2nd, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM Instructor: Rebecca Thomas Cost: $25

Crochet

Beginning Crochet
You will love learning to crochet this adorable, trendy cowl. By the time you're wearing your cowl, you will master multiple stitches, learn to add a cute crocheted edge, and be confident to start your next project. This class is appropriate for people who have no previous experience with fiber arts and for knitters wanting to become more confident with crochet. When: Tuesdays, June 6th and 20th, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Instructor: Paulette Christiansen Cost: $40

Intermediate Crochet**
Get ready to take your crochet skills to the next level. Learn how to crochet in the round by making fun, colorful mandalas. These beautiful mandalas can then be used as coasters. If you make enough, you can piece together to make a larger project, but that is a topic for another class. Prerequisite skills include slip stitch, single crochet, and double crochet. The pattern will be provided by the instructor. When: Wednesdays, July 12th, and 19th, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Instructor: Paulette Christiansen Cost: $40 

Felting Classes

Felted Sheep!
Want your very own adorable little sheep? Then join this class for the first time felter and learn how to create a 3-dimensional needle felted version of the real thing. During the class and some intermediate week class homework, you will complete the project and learn the basic felting techniques of needling, rolling, flat shaping and sculpting. When: Saturdays, June 17th and 24th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Instructor: Vicki Bedford Cost: $40

Weaving Classes

Weaving Napkins on a Rigid Heddle Loom
This class is designed to be a follow-up class to Beginning weaving. Learn to use your rigid heddle loom to make useful household items and explore weaving with other fibers. We will start on Saturday by warping napkins using two colors of 8/2 yarn on a 12 dent reed. Also included: discussion on weaving tea towels. When: Saturday, June 17th, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and Tuesdays, June 20th and 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Instructor: Deanna Baugh Cost: $65
