When you need to tie off a very short end, this handy tool will do the trick. Run the wire loop through your stitching to the loose tail. Taking the hook through the loop, snag the tail and the pull it up through the loop. Remove the hook. Pulling the wire loop back our will lock the tail. Convenience clasp releases threaded, which can be used for most fibers.
